Howdy-ho, folks! It’s been a spell since we’ve updated any news in between playing gigs here and there, but now we have some major news for y’all!
There is a new member in Crossfyre, as we have added a third guitarist in addition to Jaakko Kinnari (who is our full-time six-stringer) and Jay Jay Asikainen (original band member who only joins us on occasion for select gigs). The new man in the mix is Kai Olavi Järvinen, a long-time gigging musician with over two decades of band experience. Kai’s been here, there and little bit everywhere, plying his talents, and now, he’s in Crossfyre!
Kai will be playing his second gig with us this coming Saturday night, April 29 at a private party for Crossfyre vocalist Michael ”StarBuck” Majalahti’s wife Diana’s 30th birthday bash, after which the entire band with new guitarist in tow will head out to play the Wild Viking BBQ Fest in Hanko, Finland on May 27: www.vikingsbbqparty.com
This summer, Crossfyre will be going once again to Poland and Germany for a set of gigs, including the huge Gryf Party bash in Poland for one of the oldest MC clubs in all of Europe!
As the old saying goes, ”all good things come to an end”, and so it is with Dan Rönnbacka and the rest of The Crossfyre crew.
Dan informed us that his personal situation and job at present restrict him from taking part in the band as he would wish and as would be needed, and thus, he is opting to drop out.
Dan’s departure was initially a huge blow to Crossfyre, as in addition to being one of the most precise and talented bassists out there, Rönnbacka also handled all of the backing vocals on both the band’s albums as well as live.
We have a new bassist now, and we would publicly like to welcome Sami Salminen to the Crossfyre fold! Sami played with us at the Tallinn, Estonia Super Rally back in the summer of 2014 when Dan Rönnbacka was unable to play with us, so he is no stranger to our band.
Sami was born in 1972 in the eastern swamp area of Finland. He started playing bass at 13-years of age, and has played in THe Slidemobile, Root Remedy, Mike Estes & Bountyhunters and BigMan to date. He lists Leon Wilkeson, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee and Lemmy Kilmister as his musical influences. His favorite bands include Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, ZZTop, Motörhead, Rush, LedZeppelin and Deep Purple. His instrument of choice at the moment is a Gibson Thunderbird 50th anniversary model bass guitar.
After playing a host of gigs across Estonia, Poland and Germany in support of our new ”Iron Horse” album release, Crossfyre performed a few summer festival gigs and biker bashes here in Finland over the past month.
The Harley-Davidson Super Rally 2014 in Tallinn was the definitive highlite of the summer so far, and now the band is preparing to hit a few dates around Finland over the course of next month in August, as band vocalist StarBuck’s pro wrestling commitments have his calendar booked for much of July.
Here are a few Crossfyre gigs to look out for in August:
Friday, August 8 – LEVI @ Wild Ride
Saturday, August 9 – KUUSAMO @ Ravintola Veijo
Friday, August 15 – SAARISELKÄ @ Jänkhällä Jytisee
Saturday, August 16 – IVALO @ Ravintola Kultahippu
