Crossfyre current line-up (2014)
Michael ”StarBuck” Majalahti – vocals
Born in 1973, the current vocalist of Crossfyre moonlights as an acclaimed, successful professional wrestler around the world as ”The Canadian Rebel” StarBuck. Michael has been a performing musician/vocalist since 1999. His first band was power metal act, Hallowed, after which he transitioned to heavy rock with his own band, Stoner Kings in 2000. Michael joined Crossfyre at the beginning of 2010, two years after he hung up the gloves with Stoner Kings. The same year, Michael also joined another band in the hard rocking Overnight Sensation. Michael presently handles vocal and frontman duties for both Overnight Sensation and Crossfyre, while continuing his professional wrestling career as a 3-time European champion. Michael also serves as an illustrator and graphic artist (among his creations, Sony Music Finland’s mega-hit and children’s band, Hevisaurus), personal trainer, voice-over speaker and actor. Michael cites Vince Neil, James Hetfield, Billy Idol, John Garcia and Axl Rose as influences in his vocal approach and interpretation.
Sami Salminen – bass
Sami was born in 1972 in the eastern swamp area of Finland. He started playing bass at 13-years of age, and has played in The Slidemobile, Root Remedy, Mike Estes & Bountyhunters and BigMan to date. He lists Leon Wilkeson, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee and Lemmy Kilmister as his musical influences. His favorite bands include Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, ZZ Top, Motörhead, Rush, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. His instrument of choice at the moment is a Gibson Thunderbird 50th anniversary model bass guitar.
Jaakko Kinnari – guitar
Born in 1964, Jaakko has previously played in bands Kanuuna, Problems, The Daltons and with Idols star Kristian Meurman. Jaakko joined Crossfyre in 2011, as the band decided to take on a domestic second guitarist, as original founding member and guitarist Jay Jay Asikainen lives in Florida and is only available for select Crossfyre gigs. Jaakko’s main influences are Jeff Beck and Jimmy Hendrix. Jaakko plays a ’65 Stratocaster with stacked Seymour Duncan humbuckers.
Jari Ravaska – keyboards
Born in 1977, Jari has previously played with Finnish popular artists Paula Koivuniemi (2002-2004) and Danny (1998-2002), Norwegian progressive folk rock band Aigi (2000-2007) and as a session musician in several acts. Jari joined Crossfyre in 2013, initially filling in for Magnus Ljunqvist (who played on Crossfyre’s ”Iron Horse” album), and then joining the band full-time after Ljungqvist’s main vocation limited his availability to play live with the band. Jari’s main influences are Billy Preston and Jordan Rudess. Jari plays a Nord Electro 4D organ.
Danny Cross – drums
Born in 1958, Danny is one of the co-founders of Crossfyre, along with original guitarist Jay Jay Asikainen. Danny has previously played in the Paul Roberts Band, Palm Beach Soul and Gloria & The Hangover Blues Band before launching Crossfyre in 1991 while living in Florida, USA. Today, Danny is the heart and soul of Crossfyre, keeping the band rolling and the flame burning. Danny’s main influences are Doug Clifford and Ginger Baker. Danny plays pre-DW custom shop drums.
Magnus Ljunqvist – keyboards
Born In 1969, Magnus joined Crossfyre in 2005. Magnus has previously played in several different groups, such as the rock band Sugar Daddy’s from Karjaa, Finland. Magnus’ main influences are Jon Lord and Bill Payne. Magnus plays Nord for Hammond sound and a Rhodes piano. Magnus plays with Crossfyre part-time nowadays, as his other vocational commitments withhold him from being a full-time member.
Jay Jay Asikainen – guitar, backing vocals
Born in 1967, Jay Jay Asikainen is a co-founder of Crossfyre, along with Danny Cross, staring the band in 1991 on the Florida club circuit. Jay Jay has previously played in Gloria & The Hangover Blues Band and his own Tin Pan Alley Blues Band prior to starting Crossfyre. Jay Jay’s biggest influences are Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton and Finnish guitar legend, Albert Järvinen. Jay Jay plays a homemade Fender Stratocaster copy ( his one and only for 22 years!), ’64 gibson Firebird, and ’78 Gibson 335. Jay Jay’s amps are a ’67 Fender Super Reverb and a ’70 Fender Deluxe and Fender Vibro-King. While living currently in Florida, Jay Jay plays in his own blues trio Roadrunner on the local club circuit outside of Crossfyre.
